The Mecca of Gaming and Galactic Empires

It’s Friday and today is the last day of E3. It’s been an interesting expo for sure as Microsoft and Sony dropped a whole lot of knowledge on us gamers with the full system specs for their next gen systems, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. The 360 is looking pretty cool with all the back end stuff MS is doing with incorporating the new dashboard with Xbox Live. It could make for some interesting community stuff, which can only be a good thing for the home consoles, as there’s really no substitute for the PC gaming communities that exist. Which if you ask me are really important for the life of a title… just look what it did for Half Life. The Playstation 3 is a monster if you look at the numbers and “game demos” that were shown, but from what information they gave out, it looks like they’re just doing more of what they do now, instead of trying to innovate and evolve gaming to the next level. To a degree that’s fine, but if you have that much more technology, I’d hope that some new gaming ideas would come with it. I guess we’ll just have to leave that to Nintendo… which seems be exactly what they’re doing. Well, at least that’s what we think they’re doing. The big N was pretty skimpy on the Revolution details, but then again this is Nintendo and they’ve always been pretty guarded when it comes to announcing details about their hardware. I guess we’ll just have to wait until later to find out what’s so Revolutionary about the new system. Games wise, there really hasn’t been any real new announcements. A few here and there, but for the most part it’s stuff we’ve all ready known about. So far for me, Okami, Call of Duty 2, Phantasy Star Universe, Animal Crossing DS, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are my favorites of the show so far. I’m sure after the dust has settled and the web game editors get a chance to compile more information, I’ll get a better picture of what’s coming out this year that will require me to throw a lot of money around.

Also of note, Star Wars Episode 3 came out yesterday!! Tim, Clay, Chuck and I took a geek field trip and drove up to the nice Albany theatres to check out a matinee showing. Right off the bat you can tell this is a different breed of Star Wars. It’s starts on a high note and really doesn’t let up until the end… the pacing is just bam, bam, bam… quick and relentless. Most noticeably though, is how dark the film is. It’s not Sin City dark, but it’s gonna change your perspective on the SW films some. It kind of fits into the old saying: “Be careful what you wish for”, because all along we’ve been wishing to see some dark side ass kicking and this film gives it to you in droves. Some parts are just devastating. The PG13 rating is very fitting.

I’m gonna go on record to say that this film is easily the best of the new 3… and probably a close 2nd or 3rd on my all time list in the series. Lucas did a great job. So, if you haven’t seen it, take my advise and go see it… multiple times. :-)

But Dan, I keep bumping my head against the flashing light blue box - as opposed to the blinking faded blue square - and a bunch of coins come out and hearts come out of my ass and Sir Walt slays the ClooCloo!

    What`s up with that?

Looks like I am gonna have to wait until July 9 to see Ep-3 in Japan. That is, unless I can sneak onto the US Air Force Base here in Tokyo. I wonder if my Clayton T. Weeks business card (Gynecology Expert for the Hearing Impaired) is a valid form of ID?

LOL. Those old childhood game ideas will haunt me forever.

Glad to see that you made it to Japan OK and let’s hope you can use Week’s “ID card” to get on the base and see SW.
