I’m Turning Japanese… Yes, I Think So.

I think my inner geek is Japanese, cuz for some reason I can’t seem to get enough of the ‘ol Land of the Rising Sun these days. I’m watching more Anime then ever, I’m reading a few separate blogs from people living in Japan, thinking about teaching myself the language (again), and I just paid $50 bucks for a set of Super Mario Bros magnets and a Solar Powered desk toy. Add in that a good, good friend of mine just moved to Tokyo and my inner geek is freaking out worse than a Japanese school girl with a new puppy.

I’ve always had some sort of fascination with Japan. I suppose it started when I got into videogames as a kid, but it’s gone way beyond just games at this point in my life. I’m interested in all sorts of things related to Japan… the language, the culture, the history, the weird obsession with young idols. I’ve made a pact with my inner geek that I have to make a pilgrimage to the country at least once in the next two years. My friend just signed a two year lease for an apartment and I’d be a fool if I didn’t take advantage of his offer to come and visit. I don’t know how I’d live with my inner geek if I didn’t summit to it’s pleas.

Well, it took you long enough!

Japan is where its at - in sooooooooooooooo many ways.

Having had the fortunate opportunity to visit here 7 times in 7 years - I feel incredible lucky and blessed. I always felt I belonged here in some way - probably going back to my Ninja pajama days with Pat spying on the dude cutting our grass! You could not touch our bamboo hidden weapons and sharper-than-metal Fasset-made Shurikens!

Now that I am living / working / rocking here in Tokyo - I am so glad I did this. It is the dicotomy between the ancient and modern that I really love.

So, good, good friend, I am awaiting your visit. We have an extra guest room waiting for you. Now it is still an expensive city - to get around on the train - for entertainment, etc. But, you will love it. Of course, I work 9-9 on weekdays. But you can explore on your own and take my keitai (cell phone) with you if you get lost.

Depending on her schedule, my girl can take you out - she’d be a better tour guide than me anyways … and she’s better looking than my punk ass.

Thanks for linking up my boring-ass blog. I did add some photos. Check it out.

I also love the language. To speak, to listen to, to write. I love it b/c it is so such a nice change from dreary old Manhattan - Ah, ooh-ooh, ah-ah!

Giddy like a Japanese schoolgirl posing with a Pug on her Print Club Sticker …

Its Chic to be Geek … PE10
