The Geek Revolution Is At Hand

In Japan at least.

There comes a time when you just have to fight for what you believe in. Some fight for human rights, others for global warming, and then there are those that fight for their holy land… the geek holy land that is. It seems this past weekend (June 30th to be precise) my fellow Japanese geeks organized and marched against Otaku discrimination and to “reclaim” the geek holy land that is Akihabara. The 1.5km march that snaked through the streets (see vid below) was put together by three underground Otaku groups that joined forces to “unite anime and manga fans, cosplayers, social rejects and any others who love Otaku culture to reclaim Akihbara as the Otaku “holy land” and to protest against those who discriminate or look down on Otaku culture”.

Now I don’t live in Japan, so I may not be getting the whole picture, but I all ready thought Akihabara was the geek holy land. I thought that was universality understood. I guess not, but still… how cool is a geek protest march!?! It’s geek at its utmost level.

Stay strong my brothers and sisters… and Viva la Revolution!

Check out the cast of characters. The Darth Vador Salarymen are my favorite. See Japan Probe for more.
