Super Bowl XLII

Today is the big game. It pits the seemingly unstoppable New England Patriots versus my over achieving New York Giants. I think its safe to say this was not the Super Bowl anyone was expecting, but I’m glad it turned out this way. You see, this way I will be happy no matter what the out come. On one hand I could see the Patriots finish their season undefeated, which is a ridiculous feat in itself, or on the other hand I could see my Giants do the unthinkable and pull off one of the biggest upsets of all time. While I’ll be pulling for my Giants to win, I also realize it probably isn’t going to happen, so I’ve all ready accepted that the Patriots are going to win. All I’m really hoping for is that its an exciting Super Bowl. Blow outs aren’t fun to watch and the commercials only go so far…
Another thing I’m going to paying attention to is the score. See I came across these two stories while digging through my RSS feeds this week and I thought it would be interesting to see just how accurate their predictions are. The first is EA Sports prediction of the Patriots winning 38-30. Every year EA uses Madden to simulate the game and makes a press release stating so. The funny thing is, they’re pretty good at it, as they’ve been able to predict the winner for five straight years now. Let’s see if they can make it six. The other is a funny post I found on Kotaku, where some blog I’ve never heard of had the brilliant idea of using one of my old school favorites, Tecmo Super Bowl, to predict the winner. I guess they did some ROM hacking, updated the rosters and did some simulating of their own. Awesome. The outcome they came across is similar to EA’s as they’ve got the Patriots winning as well, but only by a score of 24-21. So let’s see if all that fancy AI Madden is sporting can stand up the the old Tecmo Bowl weave.

[Update] What a game!!! Full of great defense and exciting offense. I was on the edge of my seat the entire second half. That catch by Tyree was sick!… and Eli… what a final drive for the win.
Well it seams both predictions failed. Tecmo Bowl was closer due to the final score, but in the end, both simulations got it wrong. I guess that it’s best summed up by the old football saying, “That’s why you play the games”.
